MONROVIA– Chief Justice His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr. has announced the introduction of annual performance-based awards for judges and magistrates nationwide, in a move aimed at strengthening accountability and professionalism in Liberia’s judiciary.
Speaking Monday at the opening of the June Term of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court in Montserrado County, CJ Gbeisay said judicial officers will be assessed on six key metrics: performance, integrity, discipline, punctuality, case management, and accountability.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption:
The Chief Justice urged judges and magistrates to uphold honesty and professionalism, warning that those who abuse their office for personal gain will face disciplinary action without exception.
During the ceremony, the Chief Justice also welcomed Judge J. Kennedy Peabody back to the bench following the completion of a disciplinary sanction imposed by the Supreme Court.
The new awards program is expected to take effect at the end of the current judicial year, with top-performing jurists to be recognized publicly for excellence on the bench.
