In the wake of the Speakership crisis at the House of Representatives, Former President George Weah has termed as dangerous precedence of governance for Liberia, planned attempt to remove Speaker Fonati Koffa.
According to him, claimed attempt to manipulate the legislative branch for partisan gain is a direct affront to the principles of democracy and the will of the people emphasizing further that such actions will not be tolerated.
He said Speaker Koffa has served with dedication and integrity, and any effort to remove him illegally under the guise of political expediency is a desperate and cowardly tactic that must be condemned by all who value the rule of law.
Following the heated political debate away from home, the Standard Bearer of the Coalition for Democratic Change warned his legislative caucus members to stand firmly against such insidious plot.
“We must remain steadfast in our commitment to democratic principles and the right of the people to choose their leaders without interference and Let us also remain vigilant and united in our resolve to protect our national institutions and defend the integrity of our democracy.
In solidarity”, he added.
He further cautioned them not to be allow to be swayed by pecuniary gains and the siren song of those who seek to destabilize the governance process for their own selfish interests.
Moreover, The Former Liberian leader warned that participating in such scheme will not only betray the trust of their constituents but will also carry dire significant political consequences for their future within the party and in the eyes of the Liberian people.
Weah blasted further that the blatant act of political chicanery also threatens the integrity of the constitutional legislative process of the Country.
Meanwhile, As the power battle continues, the number of support to have Speaker Koffa removed remains unsetting with conflicting numbers circulating in the political corridors on Capitol Hill.
This is the second time political attempts have been made to unseat the current Speaker but primary reason to have him ousted seem more political than realistic.
