LIBERIA– The Chairperson of the Women Legislative Caucus of Liberia and Representative of Margibi County District #3, Hon. Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh, on Wednesday convened a community consultation and town hall meeting in the Firestone area aimed at promoting women’s political participation and advancing electoral reform.
The gathering brought together women from six divisions, along with community leaders and key stakeholders, to explore strategies for strengthening women’s representation in leadership and decision-making processes.
Participants highlighted persistent barriers that continue to limit women’s full involvement in governance and called for increased support and inclusive policies.
Delivering remarks at the event, the Head of Secretariat of the Women Legislative Caucus of Liberia, Marayah Fyneah, stressed the need to empower women through skills training and capacity-building initiatives.
She noted that such efforts are essential for fostering self-reliance and contributing to national development. For her part, Rep. Attoh-Wreh disclosed that the initiative was conceptualized in 2024 following a series of international engagements.
She added that it is supported by the governments of India, Brazil, and South Africa through the IBSA Fund.
The Margibi lawmaker also renewed calls for electoral reforms, including the introduction of gender quotas, to address the underrepresentation of women in the Legislature.
As part of the program, Rep. Attoh-Wreh donated LD$600,000 to support women across the six participating divisions—a gesture that was widely welcomed by attendees.
The initiative forms part of the “Women Legislators in Liberia: Advancing Leadership and Inclusive Governance Project (2025–2027),” which seeks to enhance women’s participation in leadership and national development across the country.
