MONROVIA— The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has formally signed a management agreement with Talwa Sanitation to operate the city’s new state-of-the-art compost facility located at the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWCS) compound.
During the signing ceremony in Monrovia Tuesday, Mayor John-Charuk Siafa described the partnership as “a massive leap forward” in Monrovia’s drive to convert waste into economic opportunity while advancing environmental sustainability.
“We entrust you with this vital infrastructure,” Siafa said, addressing Talwa Sanitation during the signing ceremony.
“We encourage you to manage this facility with the highest level of care and professional stewardship, ensuring it serves as a beacon of environmental excellence for years to come. Your success in maintaining this site is a win for every citizen of Monrovia.”
The compost facility is designed to process organic waste and reduce landfill pressure, aligning with MCC’s broader “trash-to-treasure” strategy to build a resilient, eco-friendly capital.
Siafa extended “a huge thank you” to Canadian partners, the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia, and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation for their roles in bringing the partnership to fruition.
“Together, we are not just managing waste — we are building a resilient, eco-friendly future for our capital city,” the mayor said.
MCC officials indicated that operational updates and community engagement programs at the new site will be announced in the coming weeks.
