Plenary of the House of Representatives Mandates Comprehensive Audit of Itself

Monrovia, Liberia – In the spirit of accountability, the Plenary of the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 19, 2025, voted for a comprehensive audit of itself.
The decision, viewed as a tenant of good governance, is expected to be executed by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) in collaboration with the Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee.

The house’s plenary action steams from a communication proffered by Bong County District #1 Representative, Prince Koinah.

In his letter, he craved the indulgence of his colleagues to authorize the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct a forensic audit of the House’s operations.

During the reading of the communication and floor debate, Rep. Koinah said the House has not been audited in recent years, stressing the importance of leading by example in maintaining public trust.

The process aims to assess whether the House has operated in line with established rules and laws, and whether its systems for governance, risk management, and internal controls are effective.
The proposed audit would cover both the 54th and 55th Legislatures, spanning fiscal periods from July 1, 2021, to May 31, 2025.

In his submission, the central Liberia lawmaker suggested that the GAC be given 90 days to complete the review.

The communication has been forwarded to the House’s Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee, which will coordinate with the General Auditing Commission to move the process forward.
