The office of the speaker of the 55th National Legislature Richard Nagbe Koon has termed as false and misleading publication by the Liberian investigator Linking Speaker Koon to an alleged Impeachment proceedings against the Chief Justice.
The online media reports by the Liberian Investigator titled : “Majority Bloc Plans Impeachment Proceedings Against Chief Justice”, according to office of the Speaker is not only a trash but far from the reality.
The office of the speaker clarified that to this date, there is no said resolution before the House of Representatives regarding the impeachment of the Chief Justice.
“However, What the House has received is a petition from a Liberian citizen residing in the United States and as guaranteed under Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution, every citizen has the right to petition their leaders, and this individual has exercised that right”, the speaker Koon’s office added.
Moreover, the office of the speaker also stated however that if the petitioner has engaged with any member or group of members of the House to draft a resolution, the House has no knowledge of any such effort.
At the same time, the office of the speaker has further stressed that the petition has not yet been presented to the plenary for consideration and wonder where such misleading information and reporting is coming from.
Meanwhile, The office of the speaker called on the Liberian Investigator and all media institutions to make it their business to verify information through official channels before publication, rather than propagating unconfirmed reports intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension.
