Monrovia – Atty. Isaac W. Jackson Jr., former Deputy Minister of Information, has called for an immediate halt to the demolition of homes belonging to Liberia’s poorest citizens, citing contraventions of the Land Rights Act of 2018.
In a statement, Jackson condemned the actions of President Joseph Boakai’s administration, stating that demolishing homes equates to destroying lives.
“We firmly believe that a nation cannot be built by destroying the poor.
Demolishing homes is demolishing lives,” he said while also urging the government to cease all demolition activities unless fair, lawful compensation is provided to affected families.
Jackson emphasized that the government’s actions undermine the protection of land and property rights enshrined in the Land Rights Act, leaving vulnerable citizens homeless.
He also criticized President Boakai’s statements, warning they encourage reckless behavior and disregard for citizens’ rights.
“Any leader who places the power of the military above the poor people who elected them is moving dangerously close to dictatorship.
Liberia cannot afford another dictator,” Jackson cautioned.
Jackson, is advocating for the rights of affected citizens and seeking lawful compensation.
The coalition is calling on the government to respect the Land Rights Act and prioritize the welfare of its most vulnerable citizens.
