STRANGULATED BY UNITY PARTY”: REP. EDWARD FLOMO PAYS LD$1.5M IN SCHOOL FEES FOR 600+ STUDENTS AFTER CLAIMING GOV’T WITHHELD DISTRICT FUNDS

“THEY TRIED TO STRANGLE US, BUT I WILL NOT LET OUR CHILDREN SUFFER.
TODAY I PAID LD$1.5M TO 14 SCHOOLS FOR 600+ STUDENTS ON SCHOLARSHIP”
Rep. Edward Flomo, Montserrado District #13
MONROVIA — Montserrado County District #13 Representative Edward Flomo on Tuesday disbursed over LD$1.5 million to 14 school administrators to cover tuition for more than 600 students on his scholarship program, as he accused the ruling Unity Party government of deliberately withholding his district’s development funds.
The payment, made at the Coalition For Democratic Change District #13 office, is part of what the lawmaker described as a broader effort to guarantee academic and financial relief for over 1,000 students and hundreds of parents across the district.
During the disbursement, Rep. Flomo said the support fulfills a campaign promise to keep young people in school despite what he called mounting challenges.
“Education is key to the young generation despite being allegedly deprived of my District development funds,” Flomo told administrators and parents.
He added, Even-though things are tough on him, he has been strangulated by the ruling Unity Party regime.
My benefits are not coming while I am regularly being stepped on by the Unity Party Government, Representative Flomo.
Meanwhile, School officials who received the funds welcomed the gesture and praised Rep. Flomo for what they described as consistent intervention.
They noted that his support extends beyond tuition to include community projects in bridges, healthcare, pipe-borne water, and road rehabilitation.
“This payment will reduce the financial burdens on parents and will help many students continue their education without interruption,” one administrator said.
Administrators also cautioned students to take their studies seriously “in these times of challenges.”
According to Rep. Flomo’s office, the LD$1.5 million covers students across 14 schools in District #13.
The office says more than 1,000 students are currently benefiting directly or indirectly from the lawmaker’s scholarship and welfare programs.
Rep. Flomo urged parents and community leaders to prioritize education as a tool for national development, vowing to keep supporting students because their education matters.
The accusation adds to growing tensions between some opposition lawmakers and the Unity Party government over access to constituency development funds.
Several lawmakers have in recent months complained of delays and politicization in the disbursement of legislative support funds.
