Monrovia, Liberia – September 3, 2025 — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has launched a nationwide drug testing exercise for its officers, marking a major step in restoring public trust and strengthening accountability within the institution.
On Monday, September 1, the Africa Union Trading Company, Inc., in partnership with the LDEA’s interim leadership, conducted the first round of testing at the Agency’s headquarters in Monrovia. More than 70 employees, including the three interim directors, sectional heads, and both senior and junior staff, were tested.
According to results released this week, all officers screened in the initial phase tested negative for illegal substances.
Officials say the initiative underscores the Agency’s commitment to integrity and professionalism in the fight against illicit drugs. “This exercise is not a one-time measure but part of a broader strategy to ensure that every officer of the LDEA upholds the highest standards of discipline,” the interim leadership noted, adding that random tests will continue to be carried out.
The program, which began at LDEA headquarters, will next extend to Montserrado County before being rolled out across Liberia’s remaining 14 counties.
Both the LDEA and Africa Union Trading Company reaffirmed their partnership in building a drug-free workforce, which they stressed is crucial to the Agency’s mandate of safeguarding communities across the country.
