Minnesota, USA: Shawn Conway, a veteran firefighter has been confirmed as Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, new Fire Chief by the special City Council on Monday August 21, 2023.
With an extensive career spanning 28 years in the fire service and a history of leadership roles, including being the Fire Chief at Travis Air Force Base and Scott Air Force Base, as well as serving at St. Paul Fire Department and Maplewood Fire Department, Chief Shawn Conway brings a wealth of experience to his new role according to a release.
He is a veteran of the US Air Force, where he served for 22 years and holds a bachelor’s degree from Liberty University.
Having served as Brooklyn Park’s Deputy Chief of Operations and then stepping into the role of Interim Fire Chief, Chief Conway has consistently demonstrated his dedication to safety, collaboration, and innovation.
He replaced former Chief John Cunningham, who left Brooklyn Park to become assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Safety.
Chief Conway expressed excitement about leading the City’s 54-person department, saying, “I am honored to serve as your Fire Chief. I look forward to working closely with our outstanding firefighters and partnering with our community to provide the highest level of fire protection and emergency services.”.”
Brooklyn Park Mayor, Hollies Winston, commended Conway’s leadership, saying, “Chief Conway’s experience and dedication to his colleagues makes him a great fit for our city. He understands how different Brooklyn Park is from other communities and his care for those who call our city home shines through.”
