Scores of Lawmakers have shower praises on Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon for maturely controlling proceedings on Monday during the second SONA of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai at the grounds of the Capitol Building.
Smartly dressed in a corporate suit with black glasses, Speaker Koon comfortably sat in the Speaker’s chair and maturely conducted proceedings on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Koon in the absence of the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia as well as expressed dissatisfaction from his colleagues due to sitting positions remained focused void of distractions in executing his task as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature.
Even though others have a descending view about his Speakership citing illegal and unconstitutional reasons, Koon sat quitely, held the gavel as the mantle of authority given him by his colleagues and called the session to order and subsequently conducted and concluded Legislature business on Monday.
” The Speaker was focused and professional in executing his duties today,” we must applaud him, said one of the lawmakers during a Vox pop interview.
According to another lawmaker, Speaker Koon showed true leadership and real maturity at the SONA’s occasion as such deserves commendation.
In the political tense occasion due to mix views in the Public surrounding the legitimacy of the Speaker’s position, many lawmakers were upbeat about the performance of their new Speaker and stated that such demonstrates a new day in their workings at the political theater of the Country.
As mixed views continue in the country relative to the sage on capitol hill, the Montserrado County District eleven representative and Son of Sinoe County now Speaker of the 55th National Legislature position appears secure especially with his first major Public function, the SONA recognized by the Executive headed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Meanwhile, reasons behind the full bench absence from today’s SONA’s occasion remains unclear.
However, the Director of Press at the Supreme Court of Liberia Darius Ambrose Nmah confirmed that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia Sie- A Nyene Youh is currently in Egypt attending a judicial conference alongside fifteen- eight chief justices and Presidents of Supreme and constitutional courts from Africa and the Middle East.
